About the Teacher

Education and Experience:

I received my Bachelor's degree in Secondary Education in English from Delta State University. Go Okra!  I obtained my Master's degree in linguistics from the University of Memphis.

I have been teaching for a total of 19 years.  I started out teaching high school English in Desoto County, and then Tate County.  I've also taught a year in the Chicago public schools while working on post graduate work.  After leaving Chicago, I went to England for three years and taught English to the English, which was an amazing experience!  I have also taught English as a foreign language at the University of West Bohemia in Plzen, Czech Republic for one summer.  This is my seventh year in special education but my first year at Horn Lake Middle School, and I'm so happy to be an Eagle!

 Certification(s):

I am certified in English grades 7-12 as well as special education K-12.

 Personal Info:

I am an active member of Cornerstone Church where I love to serve.  I love to write, and during the summer of 2020 I had a book of poetry published called Poems of Praise and Imagination. I am currently working on a fantasy novel.  I am an avid reader, especially works by Ray Bradbury and Edgar Allan Poe, and I love to travel both within America as well as abroad.  I grew up in Chicago until the age of 12 when my family moved to Southaven, Mississippi and love living here, but miss the snowy Chicago winters!

I am looking forward to many years as a Horn Lake Eagle and strive to make a difference in the lives of my students.
