About Miss Curtis
Education
I graduated from Southaven High School in 2009. Then I attended Christian Brothers University, where I received my Bachelor's in English in 2013 and my M.A.T in December of 2015. This year I am participating in the National Board for Certified Teachers program. I am very excited to learn a ton of new information about teaching and helping my students. I will be learning how to collect data and study my students' work with even more skill.
Experience
While obtaining my M.A.T, I student taught at Collierville High School in a 9th grade Honors English course. After spending a 9 weeks there, I moved to Kirby Middle School, where I taught 7th grade English. After graduation, I began working at Bolton High School, co-teaching 10th grade English. While working at the places above, I spent my summers working at Lindamood-Bell Learning Processes. There, I worked closely with students who struggled with reading, writing, and math. I feel like this job really helped me prepare for teaching, and I am so lucky that I had the experience to work there and meet so many awesomely sweet children. This is my 5th year at HLMS, and I love what I do. I love my kids, and I love the people I work with.
Bio
Hi, my name is Ms. Curtis. I have lived in DeSoto County my whole life; I went to Horn Lake schools before moving to SHS. I have always wanted to work in education, mainly because of the awesome teachers that I was blessed to have. I have a great family, but most importantly, I have one dog that I love. He is a Boxer mix named Scrappy. In regards to English, my favorite book is To Kill a Mockingbird, which I was first exposed to in 7th grade, and my favorite type of literary writing is poetry.
